It has been a long time (again) since my last post....sorry guys
Just before the vacation I worked on this nice receiver....for my best man.He truly wants one of mine vintage receiver (and I don't want to let go any of my Sansui
),so I picked Sony...biggest, baddest of all Sony's.
small reminder of the past tense
...couple years ago
first, every vintage collector should have a few things:
brochure -post no.5
Operating instructions:
Service manual:
and some catalog pages from
audioidiots site
many of us prefer using Deoxit,Kontakt or similar sprays...
but it is just first aid, nothing more...I'll show you why
After several treatments with Kontakt 60 spray, and couple of minutes in ultrasonic bath, this is a result of some switches.
Take a look at DMM reading...resistance (between contacts) should be zero!!!
more nude pictures (I know we all like these )
This is a speaker switch:
after cleaning
soiled one and cleaned on the right side
Good job you're doing there - and reminding me of the smaller predecessor 7055 which ist already opened. The ground plate is cleaned and the de-emphasis switch as well. But nothing more
There are still lots of switches waiting to be unsoldered and cleaned
But I'm not in a hurry
Keep cleaning that excellent receiver
Robert, what are you using for cleaning the contacts?
Since maybe nine month I'm using
this for contacts. Only a little drop on a piece of typewriter paper, only very few, maybe five, soft wipes and the contacts are clean. There's no abrasive effect on the coating, the dirt just washes away. After that I still use a good amount of t6 to wash the parts.
At the moment, this is my best choice

thank you for the info..I'll try to find it here...from that manufacturer I'm using only
this product...for insect removing from my car...really...and is very good.
I'm using Kontakt 60,61 and WL respectively, and some polishing paste for heavily damaged contacts

It is a beautiful receiver, lots were sold. It has everything you need and I do not remember it sounding bad. But which Receiver does that?
Also it is one among others. I don't like superlatives, they all get topped by the next superlative.
Cheers
Nice Job and thank you for the complete list of brochures and manuals.

must agree with you... lots of wisdom in your post
The polishing paste should be about the same stuff I'm using.

you welcome
to continue with some pictures before and after recaping...apologies for the quality of photos,I'm usualy workin' at night...and I'm lousy photographer
tuner board
input board with eq (phono stage)
dolby board (although not in use this days)
and yes, I left those tantalum capacitors alone
despite cleaning all of contacts, one problem occurred.Sometimes,at low volume level, left or right signal is droping down..no tone from one or both channel...low level only.
Speaker relay is cause...his contacts to be precise.
Let see...
and after cleaning
Before any job, scale ilumination was comination green/white...just like this:
since I still had another piar of original lamp,I changed them
now is much better
that will be all for tonight gent's...good night
Moin Boyz and hello Robert,
the speaker relay is the only part in my V7 that I used to clean until today
all the pots are still working fine...but when I see your pics...I should get any doubts on what I have been doing up to now.
Why did you exchange some resistors on the two Power Amp PCBs, Robert ?

Yes, excellent work Robert
My V7 was just at Armin's place for a clean- and check-up, and is now working well again
Great receiver with fantastic sound, love to have it.
