Stimmt alles irgendwie ein bisschen, aber trotdem herrlicher Indie Pop! Man fühlt sich gleich 20 jünger.

Uh Hu Her - Nocturnes

More specifically, I heard someone somewhere describe it as "electro gaze" if that means anything to you.

Currently I am listening to Another Case on repeat; watch it (below) and you might well find yourself joining me. Human Nature is another amazing track, very slow and dreamy. I like it.

In short: if you've dismissed Uh Huh Her in the past as a quirky L Word spin-off (Leisha played Alice in The L Word, for those who never watched the show), or have mistaken them for the PJ Harvey album of the same name, you are missing out. Watch the videos below and you'll see why.

Habe mir gerade die neue RHCP angehört und bin maßlos entsetzt. Gequirlte Scheiße wäre noch schmeichelhaft. Das Album ist belanglos, schlecht produziert und dazu noch überteuert. An alle Fans, Finger wech. Ich ahnte es bereits und habe mir deshalb so viel Zeit damit gelassen.

Ähnlich wie bei der Bloodhound Gang, Limp Bizkit u.v.m. ist
ist die kreative Uhr wohl auch abgelaufen. Jetzt gehts nur noch
um Geld verdienen. Die Ticketpreise von über 100€ in diesem Jahr
waren ja auch gezalzen.

War gestern im Plattenladen, die wollten für die Scheibe ohne jede Extras 35 Euro. Bei Amazon gibt es sie nicht mal. Das ist einfach nur frech.

Darkness Falls - Alive In Us

Wer sichs leisten kann, mag dabei auch durch skandinavische Fjorde schippern.

Klirrende 60s Twang-Gitarren, verhaltene Beats und der bittersüße Gesang von Josephine Philip stellen das Grundgerüst des Sounds dar. Besonders ins Zeug legt sich die Sängerin natürlich in dem Song, der ihren Namen trägt. In Josephine liefert sich selbige ein Gesangsduell mit Kim Las; gefilterete Pianoklänge und Gitarren schweben um den Gesang. 100 Meter Mind Dash ist mit einer starken, an The xx erinnernden Bassline durchzogen, die uns weiter dem Einbruch der Dunkelheit entgegentreibt. Ebenso gelungen der Titelsong, es ist dies nicht der einzige Track, der auch wunderbar auf dem grandiosen Soundtrack zu Lost in Translation stehen könnte. Die melancholische Stimmung dieses Filmes und seine kongeniale musikalische Untermalung ist überhaupt ein guter Anhaltspunkt, um sich diese erbauende Melancholie vor Augen zu führen. Noch besser ist es allerdings, sich Alive in us in die Ohren zu führen. Ja: die perfekte Herbstplatte.

My Brightest Diamond - All Things Will Unwind

“We Added it Up” opens the record with a punchy, almost Ragtime acoustic guitar, suggesting Cabaret by way of Carolina. Inspired by becoming a mother, chats with legendary performance artist Laurie Anderson, presidential addresses, and class warfare, Worden is metabolizing her influences as only she can- with playful, profound originality.

Since recording My Brightest Diamond’s critically acclaimed sophomore album A Thousand Shark’s Teeth, Shara has returned to Detroit, where she grew up in a family of musical evangelists. She is drawing inspiration from the motor city’s unique struggles. On “High Low Middle” Worden takes us to the center of Detroit’s unemployment crisis, in a catchy, vaudevillian protest song that would make Woodie Guthrie proud:

All Things Will Unwind is a picture of an artist maturing; considering joy and pain, beauty and horror, yet bravely standing in the tension between the two- and singing about it. The record closes with “I Have Never Loved Someone” and finds Shara dipping into her soothing alto, singing to her newborn son; the pedals of the pump organ creak under the vocal, evoking visions of a cradle gently rocking:

I have never loved someone the way I love you
I have never seen a smile like yours
And if you grow up to be king or clown or pauper,
I will say you are my favorite one in town

Yet even in a lullaby, one that could easily be a classic, Shara is still Shara:

And when I grow to be a poppy in the graveyard
I will send you all my love upon the breeze
And if the breeze won’t blow your way
…I will find some other way to tell you, you’re ok

She closes the album repeating you’re ok, against the swell of an angelic choir, assuring her son, herself, and the listener- in this world of opposites “ok” – like this remarkable album-is a well-earned triumph.

Grouplove - Never Trust A Happy Song

Mittlerweile ist mit "Never Trust A Happy Song" das Debütalbum des Quintetts aus Los Angeles erschienen, so dass wir den Leser-Tipp aufgreifen können.
Bereits 2010 ließen Grouplove mit der gleichnamigen EP aufhorchen, von deren 6 Titeln es nur "Colours" und "Naked Kids" auf das Album schafften. Wer also Gefallen an "Never Trust A Happy Song" findet, kann hier im Nachhinein noch mehr Songs entdecken.

Das Album startet mit "Itchin' On A Photograph" famos (Handclaps, ein von der gesamten band geschrieener Refrain) und auch der Vergleich mit Violent Femmes dürfte allein schon wegen Christian Zucconis einschneidendem Organ verständlich erscheinen. Mir fallen noch Ähnlichkeiten zu Fanfarlo oder Talking Heads ("Tongue Tied") ein, dazu verströmt "Colours" den Charme der frühen Pixies, vor allem, da mit Hannah Hooper eine zweite Sängerin an Bord ist, die immer wieder in die Kim Deal-Rolle schlüpft.
Im weiteren Verlauf der Platte vermögen Grouplove einen mit ihren stürmischen Songs mitzureißen ("Love Will Save Your Soul"), ähnlich wie es Clap Your Hands Say Yeah auf ihrem Debüt gelang. Zudem experimentieren sie viel, u.a. mit Elektronik in "Slow", begeben sich auf balladeskes Terrain ("Betty's Bomb Shell") und loten dabei ihre Möglichkeiten aus. Dass dabei nicht jeder Exkurs gelungen ist, etwa das Abrutschen in Richtung Rockabilly ("Chloe"), sei ihnen verziehen.

Gehört in jeden Plattenschrank:

Sykur - Mesopotamia

Sykur mark a point where pop, art and fashion meet. Their visual aesthetic comes from their strong design sensibilities - from their homespun illustrations to collaborations with Iceland's fashion designer-to-watch, Mundi Vondi. Remarkably, the world has had to wait for Sykur's tasty slices of electro until the band finished school.

Sykur was originally founded in the early nineteenth century by a small group of Icelandic aristocrats who envisioned music as a means of letting go of one self and rejoice in a wild dance. Naturally, they were way ahead of their contemporary musicians who mainly used music for science and skiing. The original team, who then called themselves 'Sigkjör' held countless social gatherings, some said to have lasted for days on end until they suffered a horrible synthesizer accident in 1893, decapitating three and rendering themselves unable to easily access their spleens and other internal organs. Over the years several people have upheld their legacy and now the latest group to take up their banner consists of Stefán Finnbogason, Halldór Eldjárn and Kristján Eldjárn.

Rubicks - The Rise Of The Giddy

Zitat:Rubicks has been bubbling under for nearly a decade now. After the band released its first single, 'Midas' in 2002, fans had to wait a further four years until it released its début LP, In Miniature on Universal Records in 2006. The album was met with critical acclaim and Rubicks acquired a loyal fan base who were teased with the 2009 EP, Idiot Time, and a string of singles throughout 2010 before the long-awaited Rise of the Giddy hit shelves this August. The fans' patience and faith has, no doubt, been vindicated.

On 'Jungle of You' the penultimate track on Rise of the Giddy, singer, Vanessa Redd, name checks a plethora of cult alternative bands from My Bloody Valentine to Queens of the Stone Age. 'Jungle of You' itself sounds like the Queens' own 'Burn the Witch' enthused with a heavy yet poppy synth electronica.

And that's essentially what Rubicks is about. Rise of the Giddy is a rock album coated in sludgy synth bass and underscored by a stomping beat that's almost unrelenting throughout the album's 49 minutes. The opener, 'Is This Love?', is a loud-quiet-loud assault that should soon be filling dance floors at indie nights across the country. As the album progresses you'll find it hard to stay sitting still, this is a band to dance to. Recent tours with John Foxx, The Klaxons and Gary Numan and a spot on Modular's Leave Them All Behind compilation will have all but cemented Rubicks' position as one of the top electro-indie acts in the country. Rise of the Giddy's pedigree is only enhanced by the involvement of producer, Robert Harder, a man who has worked with and produced the likes of Soulwax, Whitey and electronic music pioneers, Squarepusher and Brian Eno.

It is, however, Vanessa Redd's vocals that set Rubicks apart from the similar Sleigh Bells and YACHT, comparisons to Debbie Harry and Siouxsie Sioux are generous but not unwarranted. Redd's voice floats angelically above the demonic electro-sludge of Marc Makarov's bass and Vee Vimolmal's synth on tracks like 'Giddy Up' and 'Surrender', but we find the innocence is far from omnipotent as she weaves seductively in and out of the noise on the likes of 'Black and Blue' and 'Jungle of You'. Vanessa Redd is Rubicks' secret weapon and with her in its arsenal, there's little that can stop this band from conquering the mainstream in light of Rise of the Giddy.

In October last year, Rubicks announced on its website: “God is dead... Celebrate”. If that's so, then I can't think of a better soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic celebration than Rise of the Giddy.

Rise of the Giddy was released on 8th August via Sharp Attack Records.

I Heart Sharks – Summer

Vor unglaublich lang zurückliegenden vier Jahren hörte man das erste Mal etwas von I Heart Sharks. Sie heißen Pierre, Simon und Georg, kamen aus aller Welt, trafen sich in Berlin und frickelten die EP “Wolves” zusammen, die sofort durch Herz, Bein und Kopf jagte.

Von der jugendlichen Naivität und Planlosigkeit, von der ihre EP lebte, gibt’s auf „Summer“ allerdings nichts mehr zu hören. Nicht nur, dass die Jungs selbst an ihrer Langspielplatte bastelten und Fans dazu aufriefen, sie mit dem Kauf von exklusivsten Merchandisingartikeln davor zu bewahren, ihre Seele an eine Plattenfirma zu verkaufen, auch ihr Sound ist ausgefeilter, raffinierter, und noch eingängiger.

Zunächst scheint es Hai-Liebhabern als gäbe es auf „Summer“ keine neuen Errungenschaften, denn die ersten fünf Tracks der Platte, Monogamy, Kino oder Lies kennt man bereits. Doch das wirft die Platte nicht aus der Bahn, denn es sind allesamt Songs mit treibenden Rhyhtmen, flimmernden Synthies und eingängigen Refrains, die auf “Summer” genauso Hitpotenzial haben, wie sie auf den Konzerten der Berliner Tanzflächenstürmer sind.





Vor allem aber ist da Neuzeit. Dieser Track ist nicht nur die erste Singleauskopplung, die seit dem 21. Oktober “neue Geschichte” in den Plattenläden schreibt, und obendrein auch als schicke Limited Edition mit allerhand Remixen zu haben ist, sie outet sich auch als ein wahres Goldstück der Platte. Mit zuckersüßestem Akzent trällert Pierre Germanismen und eingängige Lautwiederholungen vor sich hin, die noch lang im Großhirn nachhallen.

Und wem aus fadenscheinigen Gründen das Lied nicht überzeugen sollte, den soll wohl jede Menge nackte Haut umstimmen. YouTube allerdings hat wohl beides nicht wirklich überzeugen können …







Auch Animals, Wolves und The World Is Yours waren schon Tracks, die sich auf ihrer EP tümmelten, mit rohen, kratzigen, elektronischen Klängen verführten und der LP nun etwas Nostalgie verganger Tage mitgeben. Doch auf “Summer” beweisen die Pierre, Georg und Simon, dass ihre Kunst der Verführung auch ausgefeilter, noch unmittelbarer und feinstimmiger zu haben gibt, als es mit den EP-Versionen war.

Auch die anderen neuen Tracks wie “Suburbia”, “Golden Gate” oder “NY BLN” fügen sich aalglatt in die Platte ein. Sie beleben das Debüt der Wahlberliner, entwickeln eine leidenschaftliche, angeheizte Stimmung, immer und immer mit treibenden Rhythmen, blitzartigen Synthesizern und dem aufreizendem Akzent Pierres, mit dem er vom ersten bis zum letzten Takt dazu auffordert, sich loszulösen, nur für einen Augenblick den Moment auszukosten, sich der Schwerelosigkeit hingeben zu können.

“Summer” ist laut, kratzt, eckt an, ist dreckig, leidenschaftlich und heiß. Diese Platte ist wie der Sommer, den wir dieses Jahr nicht hatten, denn wie die raren Sonnenstrahlen gibt man sich auch jedem Track der Platte hin. Die kleinen Fehlerchen, die die großen Musikjournalisten hören, geben I Heart Sharks zu, es sind letztlich nur Nichtigkeiten in einem musikalischem Experiment dreier Freigeister, über die man hinweg sehen muss, weil ihr Plan schlichtweg aufgeht.

“Let’s just pretend it’s Summer”, dachten sich die Jungs und haben eine LP zusammengetüftelt, die wohl den ein oder anderen Winter gekonnt überdauern wird!

Tom Smith und Andy Burrows sind seit Jahren befreundet und hatten vor geraumer Zeit die Idee ein Album mit Weihnachtssongs aufzunehmen. Das Album bietet eine homogene Mischung aus klassischen Weihnachsliedern wie dem "Christmas Song", besinnlichen Coverversionen wie Yazoos "Only You" oder "Wonderful Life" von Black, als auch neue Songs der beiden Protagonisten, die das Album zu einer der schönsten Weihnachtsplatten der letzten Jahre machen. Vor allem die samtige Stimme des Editors Sängers lässt Gänsehautstimmung aufkommen und wird abgerundet durch eine feine Instrumentierung, wobei es Smith & Burrows gelingt, nicht in Kitsch zu verfallen, sondern eine hoch anspruchsvolle und durchweg toll klingende Platte vorzulegen.
